Fine Wine of the Month: May

Our sommelier pick of May: Valpolicella Superiore DOC 2006, from Azienda Agricola Romano Dal Forno, a red wine produced in Veneto, east of Lake of Garda, near Verona.

One of the best Italian fine wine for only £55 instead of £85!

This wine has a big, burly red, with lots of charred oak and smoky bacon character coloring the rich, ripe crushed berry fruit. Hints of flowers and black cardamom add to the complexity. Full-bodied, with well-poised, velvety tannins that capture the flavors and drive them through the long finish.

Food Pairing: Would pair very well with roasted game birds or funghi porcini risotto.

To produce Valpolicella Superiore DOC the Azienda Agricola Romano Dal Forno faithfully follows the same qualitative and procedural criteria that it uses for Amarone.

For this week only we offer to our costumers the traditional Colomba plus a bottle of Moscato d’Asti 2011 Albino Rocca or, alternatively, a bottle of Franciacorta Brut Fratelli Berlucchi for only £34.90.

For those who are not fond of Italian food tradition, the Colomba (Italian for Dove) is made in a similar manner to panettone, with flour, eggs, sugar, natural yeast and butter; unlike panettone, it usually contains candied peel and no raisins. The dough is then fashioned into a dove shape and finally topped with pearl sugar and almonds before being baked.

Vini Italiani brings to you the Colomba from Princi, the famous Italian Bakery in Soho, London.

Tignanello 2009 for £55

Fine Wine of the Month – March 2013

This month we launch a new special offer for our customers: every month we will choose an iconic Italian fine wine and we will sell it at a ridiculously low price.

The first fine wine of the month is Tignanello 2009 by Antinori, one of the most important wineries in Italy.

Tignanello is a Super Tuscan recognised around the world as one of the most representative wines from Tuscany.

Wine ratings: Robert Parker: 94/100, Wine Spectator: 92/100

Producer Notes: A very intense ruby red in color with purple highlights, the wine is immediately and suavely convincing in its aromas and harmonious in its expression of the characteristics of Chianti Classico as a zone. The nose is redolent of licorice, violets, and cherries under spirits together with notes of vanilla, chocolate, and sweet toasty oak, all of excellent intensity and sweet elegance. Fresh and savory flavors on the persistent finish add length and finesse.

Blend: 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc

Special Offer: £55 per bottle (inclusive of all taxes) instead of £75. You save £20 per bottle.

Deal terms: maximum purchase of 6 bottles per person, collection in store only, not cumulable with any other offers or discounts. This offer is available until the 31 March 2013 only.
